Walking to, Climbing up, Leaning into Strutting into Forty Two
Yes, strutting is right because Living My Life Like It’s Golden is still my theme song! One day I was 41 and the next 42. I have to say I don’t feel much different, and I often have to count to remember how old I am.
Celebration Time
I love reading and I love to travel, so my favorite holidays combine those two. This does not mean a holiday by the beach or by a pool. Rather, it means making time for both sightseeing and reading. My perfect trip involves some sightseeing, a break for tea/food and some reading, more sightseeing, more reading.
Sardinia lived up to every expectation. I had about 3 days for fun, and this is a summary what I did:
- Sat on the balcony and enjoyed the sunshine.
- Ate a 7 course omakase seafood Sardinian and Japanese meal.
- Sat in an AC room reading On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (heartbreaking memoir) and Sofia Khan is Not Obliged (light fun).
- Ate incredible gelato.
- Took the bus (reading time) for sightseeing nuraghes in Barumini.
- Ate some Sardinian specialties.
- Walked along Poetto beach.
- Visited the Molentargius natural park to see the flamingos.
I posted all about the trip here.
Eating Holiday
Many of my favorite holidays include a variety of eating experiences. Sardinia was no different. =I loved the potato and mint dumplings, the fried fish/seafood, the pork belly, the pistachio gelato, etc.
Reflection Time
At the wonderful age of 42, it’s time to reflect on the turning points of my life:
- Moving to Canada at the age of 12. I didn’t want to leave my grandmother but Canada was a better pace for me than St. Lucia.
- Being kicked out of home at the age of 23. If not, I might have remained comfortable rather than …
- … moving to India. I didn’t know that you could work and travel. I needed a full time job to move out and pay my student loans but there were no full time teaching jobs in Ontario so I accepted a teaching job at a Canadian school in India
- Leaving India. It would have been so easy to stay there for several years and then move back to Canada. Instead, I choose to chase the unknown.
- Leaving teaching and deciding to stay in Prague.
- Starting a remote, online job and starting a podcast.
- … TBC …
I could tease out some more milestones but those are the BIG crossroads so far. Here’s to another year
I’m happy you spent your birthday doing what you love.
Yes, the food does seem to be worth the travel! 💕
Thanks Hazel!
I am happy that you enjoy your day to what makes you happy
You are a Brave Lady my friend. Great to have shared some of those experiences with you!
Best if wishes.
You have lived a life my friend. Congratulations on 42, the turning points, and the milestones.. Looking forward to the TBC. And the incredible memoir to follow. Happiest of birthdays, and wishing you nothing but the best.
