The discover prompt for today is dish. Looking for inspiration, I opened up Google Photos and searched for my photos of food. I’ve had some delicious dishes in restaurants around the world – creative cuisine in Japan, a 10-courses menu at the Waldorf Astoria in Bangkok, fresh out of the oven “creole” bread with salted butter in St. Lucia, wonderful biscuits at Compère Lapin in New Orleans, the list goes on…
At our team meeting two weeks ago, we had to answer the following question:
What dish would you choose if you could only have one meal for the rest of your life?
What?!
I may have said previously that I thrive on predictability and routine, but that does not apply to food. I like trying new recipes and ordering different dishes when I eat out. When I do food prep, I prepare a bunch of ingredients on the weekend, but then combine them in a variety of ways during the course of the week. It’s fun for me to pick up a fruit or vegetable I’ve never seen before and figure out how to prepare it or eat it. It’s exciting for me to play in the kitchen and put together a new dish that’s flavorful and delicious.
Dishes to Eat and to Eat On
Looking through my photos, I found some of my favorite dishes that remind me of “home”. I say that home is where I don’t have to live out of my suitcase, but in this context, home is the place where I was born. These dishes remind me of my grandmothers cooking. I’ve also thrown in some bonus photos that showcase the variety of dishware that I’ve collected over the years.
During April, I’m participating in the writing prompts challenge from WordPress.com. Want to participate? Find the prompts here.
