Up to Gemmi
I’m still in Switzerland. This morning, right after breakfast, I took the first cable car from Leukerbad to Gemmi. I had decided to spend 1hr walking before heading back to the hotel. I had read that it takes 20 minutes to walk to Lake Daubensee so I walked along that path and enjoyed the view of the lake. I got there in time to see some great views before the fog rolled in. Walking back toward the cable car, I stopped for a moment to appreciate the immensity of the natural world around me. At that moment, I felt small in the world, a continuation of the feelings from yesterday’s meditation.
Travel to Geneva
It would take about take about 3.5 hours to get to my friend’s place in Geneva. I walked the 10 minutes to the main bus station. After a ~30 minutes ride, it dropped me off at the train station. Within a few minutes, the train arrives, and I boarded it to Martigny. From there, I changed trains to Geneva. I knew I had several bus options from Geneva station, but Google said walking would only take 18 minutes. I only had a small rolling carry-on so that seemed easy enough, and it was, even with the uphill portion of the path. I had about 12,000 steps by the time I arrived at my friend’s.
Exploring Geneva
After a delicious lunch of yellow yam and fish stew (my friend cooked), we took off to explore Geneva. We visited St. Pierre’s cathedral and walked to the UN buildings, before looping back to Bains des Pâquis where we had fondue. Now, regularly buy cheese but never gruyere, and fondue is not my favourite food. In fact, I’ve only had it once before and can’t remember where. I enjoyed the experience and can check it off as one-an-done. There were lots of people there, enjoying a nice night on the tail end of summer, so it was atmospheric.
By the time we got back to the flat, with a detour to Jet d’Eau, I had over 29,000 steps on my Fitbit. Not a bad day’s walk!
