From Scratch is a memoir of life, love and loss by Tembi Locke. It’s about families, the one you are born with, marry into, and create.
Tembi is an African-American actress, who met her husband, Saro, as a foreign exchange student in Italy. They build a life together in America and twenty years later, she finds herself a widow. From Scratch sparkles with love and joy. It’s not fluffy but it’s incredibly light for a book with so much pain and struggle.
Read this book as an exploration of vulnerability, faith, courage, family, culture(s). There are so many topics here if you want to read this with a bookclub. I read it on my own and was deeply touched.
